So Simple, A Caveman Could Fly It.
The Lama v3 & v4 models are a balance of engineering sophistication and manufacturing simplicity. Keep in mind that this is an aircraft, and not a child's toy, and requires a measure of coordination and dexterity to fly it well. Unlike regular fixed pitch or collective pitch model helis, the Lama uses a set of upper and lower counter-rotating blades to maintain heading. It is intended for indoor flight in a large space, or outdoors on a wind-free day. Controls are throttle (up and down), nose heading (left/right steering), side-to-side movement, forward and reverse motion.

Unlike more expensive and technically advanced model helis, you'll find yourself spending more time actually flying & very little time worrying about crashing it - it's that stable in the air.

Unlike more technically advanced helis, the Lama is simple to adjust, and is remarkably durable. Operate it like you would the family car: drive it into a wall or tree & you wiill definitely damage it. Replacement parts are readily available, and cheap. Battery charge time is around 2 hours for a fully drained battery. Flight time is around 15 minutes. This is normal to better than usual for an electric aircraft. A spare battery on hand is a plus.

Look around a little & don't pay more than $88 for it. A major west coast on-line retailer offers free shipping with a coupon code, and stocks parts, too. Performance upgrades, such as hi-performance motors, larger capacity batteries, fancy body configurations, tougher blades, and metal parts can be found on the internet.

The only major drawback is the fragile nature of the factory rotor blades. Nevertheless, more durable and better performance blades are available on-line, and all at a reasonable price.

Afraid of crashing & destroying a delicate aircraft? The Lama is so easy to operate that in no time, you're virtually crashproof. There is little you can do to it that isn't fixable.

Best "blade" ever built! March 2, 2009

I have one of these little guys. First off, some back story.

I had originally purchased a RTF model that had some problems. Contacted E-flite explained the issue to them, and they exchanged my original with a new unit. So thats a plus for the company right there. The unit they sent back was a BNF model.

I use my CX2's LP5DSM to control my MCX, and its a HUGE improvement over it's original. If you purchase a MCX, I would suggest using your CX controller if you have one. Binding your MCX to another remote is easy as 1,2,3.

Unit flies very stable, and is VERY impact resistant. I suggest the following for first time heli users. Purchase extra mounting rings (EFLH2226) and a space inner shaft/upper hub (EFLH2212) encase of hard crashes. The inner shaft / hub for these go out of stock a good deal, so if you can pick up an extra. Odds are you'll need it sooner or later.

Fun to fly, easy to learn on your way to bigger helicopters. However, odds are even after you upgrade this will be your favorite.

It took a bit of getting used too, but once you figure out how the trimming works and the sensitivity of the controls (which you can adjust) this toy is a BLAST!!

It seems more durable then I thought it would be. It took a few hard crashes from about 6 feet up into a brick fireplace to even chip a rotor (new rotors are included) and even with the giant chip missing it still flies great!

The instructions aren't that great as the translation is poor, however you can still figure out what they're talking about.

I've easily gotten about 20 minutes of consistent use at one sitting without recharging it from before, so overall I want to say the battery included lasts at least 30-40 minutes. You'd probably have a heating issue before the battery actually died.

The only complaint I can think of is it can be kind of a pain to remove the battery each time you want to turn it off. I think a power switch would have been a good investment.

Overall, this was completely worth the purchase!!
